Lemon BreadRecipe Index: Breads/Pastries > Sweet/Dessert1 1/2 cup flour 1 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup milk 2 eggs 1 tsp. baking powder pinch of salt grated rind of one lemon juice of one lemon Directions Cream the shortening, milk and eggs together in a large mixing bowl. Then add the 1 cup of sugar, baking powder and salt followed by gradually adding the flour. Finally, fold in the grated lemon rind. Bake in a greased and floured bread pan for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. While the bread is still hot from the oven, combine the lemon juice with the 3/4 cup sugar and spoon the mixture onto the loaf. Allow to cool before removing from the pan. Notes * Variation: You can add in poppy seeds or grated orange peel for a slightly different flavor. |
